The Premiership champions and the FA Cup winners will be hoping to strike an early psychological blow as their intense rivalry shapes up for another year.

The two rivals met on five occasions last season with Liverpool winning the last meeting with a memorable 2-1 victory in their FA Cup semi-final clash.

Chelsea are the current holders of the Community Shield having beaten Arsenal in last season's fixture.

John Terry and Steven Gerrard will lock horns again after the Chelsea star beat the Liverpool ace to the England captaincy earlier this week.

Premiership champions Chelsea are set to be without Joe Cole for the trip to Wales as he struggles with a knee injury.

Czech goalkeeper Petr Cech is still recovering from surgery meaning Carlo Cudicini will start in goal. However new signings like Andrei Shevchenko and Michael Ballack are both expected to make their competitive debuts for Chelsea.

William Gallas will not be included after he missed the club's pre-season trip to America.

Liverpool duo Robbie Fowler and Fabio Aurelio are again set to miss out

Both players missed Wednesday's UEFA Champions League win over Maccabi Haifa through injury and Rafa Benitez will not risk the pair.

Harry Kewell and Daniel Agger are both still missing through injury.

Peter Crouch is pushing for a start after only being named a substitute in midweek and Mark Gonzalez could make the starting line-up after his goal against Maccabi.

My prediction :Liverpool to win 1-0 and Peter Crouch to score.
